BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE LIBRARY

ABOUT KALIYAGANJ COLLEGE: With the missionary zeal, untiring efforts, noble sacrifices and undaunted initiative of the people of the locality in general, Kaliyaganj College was brought into existence as the temple of learning on the auspicious day of 20th August 1968 to cater to the long felt thirst for knowledge of young rural aspirants in conformity with the ever increasing craze for higher education in the post-Independence era. Affiliated to the University of Gour Banga (earlier North Bengal), this college is one of the largest degree colleges in the district of Uttar Dinajpur. The College has in its own possession 12.31 acres of land enriched with the potentiality for developing it into an ideal institution for higher studies.

Meanwhile, it has attained an imposingly pleasant growth, from a humble beginning, but as a matter of fact, even today, it has miles to go. And it is growing amazingly fast.

ABOUT LIBRARY SYSTEM: The Library System of Kaliyaganj College. It is a general Degree college which is affiliated to University of Gour Banga. The Library System consists of Central/Main Library and several Departmental libraries. Main library is the focal point of the library services provided to the Faculties, Non-teaching staffs and Students of the college. The library was established with the foundation of the college in 1968 to cater the needs of the then faculties and students of the college. It houses need based collection of books, journals and periodicals (both print and electronic forms).

KOHA- an Open-Source Integrated Library Software is being used for computerization of the library resources. Besides OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), Card catalogue informs users about the books available in the library.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
Aims
The library aims to form an integral component of teaching – learning pedagogy by reforming itself as intellectual hub providing an important platform for academic discourse and exchanges. The library holds about 25500+ books, 600+ journal issues, some CD/DVDs, 199000+ e-books (through N-List), 6600+ full text e-journals from N-List.

Objectives

  • To acquire, organize and update the library collection to provide more productive environment for teaching and learning.
  • To acquire innovative technologies and tools to improve user-oriented services.
  • To improve the capabilities and potentials of library staff to provide more effective and responsive library services.
  • To improve the standard and reputation of the college through excellence in library services.
  • To provide instruction and assistance in effective teaching and learning process.
  • To provide information literacy to the faculties and students for effective use of information resources and services.
